On Day 3, we boarded our private river boat to begin our trip down the Niger River to Timbuktu.
My absolute favorite place to ride on the boat was on top. It was so nice soaking up the sunshine and taking in the view of everything around us.

Here is what awaited us as we approached a village to stop at.
As soon as we got off the boat, kids would grab our hands and wouldn't let go until we got back on the boat.
When it was time to stop for the night, we pulled to the side of the river and set up some tents. They would build a fire for us and then go back to the boat to sleep. We were left to do our own thing. Toby and Daniel built a sandcastle and I read Christmas stories. I actually really enjoyed camping along the river.
